Studded with monuments and lined with stylish mansions, Monument Avenue housed the leaders of business and commerce in Richmond for years. Some two decades of gradual decline saw the grand mansions turned into boarding houses and apartments, but the downward slide ended thanks to concerned citizens who began to reclaim the street for single families. Today, the street shines anew.
