No visit to Rio is complete without setting foot on looming Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar) itself. There are hikes from easy to challenging, unparalleled experiences in rock climbing and, of course, the world-famous cable car rides to the top. Sugarloaf soars 1,300 feet into the air above the city, and the panoramas are breathtaking. Begin in the Urca neighborhood and take the first car to the top of Urca Hill, then the second to the top of Sugarloaf itself. The truly adventurous may hike up, which is very challenging, but equally rewarding.
