If you’re going to be indulging in a margarita or two, you might as well learn the history behind the libation. The JW Hill Country Marriott Resort and Spa, a luxe getaway that features the divine Lantana Spa, a PGA Tour golf course and a range of restaurants, offers one of the best venues for brushing up on agave drinks. Cibolo Moon, the resort’s southwestern-inspired restaurant, has a fun and informative tequila tasting that’s worth the drive (you do not have to be a hotel guest, although if you are a tequila glutton you may want to get a room or arrange for a driver). The tasting includes an educational overview of the three traditional tequilas (silver, reposado and anejo) and a homemade infused tequila, usually a strawberry-jalepeno pepper blend. The spirited (pun intended) event lasts for about an hour and includes complimentary hors d'oeuvres such as salsas and guacamole.
