San Juan

In the Antigua Plaza del Mercado, or Old Market Plaza, which is the now the interior patio of the Museo San Juan, a Saturday farmers market was resurrected in 2011 in the same spot the original market took place 150 years before. Here you’ll find a refreshing sense of authenticity amid the tropical fruit and brightly colored produce brought from all over the island. There are even artisanal cheeses from the mountains, multiple types of coconut water, live music that sometimes brings out sporadic salsa dancing and an on-site massage therapist. There’s a slight hippy vibe running through the market, as terms such as organic and ecological are emphasized. Games and entertainment for children are also offered.
