While the fact is debatable, Barrachina claims that its bartender, Ramón Portas Mingot, invented the original piña colada here in 1963. True or not, the bar is a pleasant retreat near La Fortaleza, occupying a two-centuries-old colonial building and interior courtyard surrounded by lush tropical foliage. Today, the bar attracts a mix of both tourists and locals who come for the piña colada recipe that has been unchanged for half a century.
