The Queen Mary’s maiden voyage was in 1936. At that time, it was considered the most elite and civilized way to travel by high society. Later used during World War II as a troopship, the ship was restored to its former glory after the war. In the 1960s, when airplane travel gained popularity, Cunard Line sold the Queen Mary, and it took up residence in Long Beach. Today, visitors can come aboard the Queen Mary for guided tours that will share the history of the ship and more. The Sun Deck Gallery features traveling exhibits and special events, such as car shows, which regularly take place aboard the ship, too. There are multiple dining options available to the public—from casual to fine dining—including a champagne Sunday brunch. And, for a real treat, book a room in an iconic art-deco cabin, with views of the ocean and Long Beach, and really experience old-school luxury.
