If rock climbing or meandering up tall slopes gets you high, run, don’t walk to any one of Seoul’s magnificent mountains: There are so many within easy striking distance that you could make traversing them the objective of your entire vacation! The most popular, in Bukhansan National Park, has breathtaking views and beautiful scenery. Due to its proximity to the city, about five million people visit it annually, making it the most frequented mountain destination in Seoul. The Bukhansan Fortress and several temples are also in the national park so there’s a landmark thrill awaiting you as well.
Cheonggyesan mountain is located near Seoul Grand Park and the National Museum of Contemporary Art. It is popular among hikers because it is so scenic with its incredible forests, valleys, parks and Buddhist temples. Suraksan Mountain offers impressive views of northern Seoul and the nearby countryside. Because its hiking trails are excellent for various levels of athleticism and there is convenient access by public transportation, it is often crowded on weekends and holidays. There is also a Confucian school and a Buddhist temple on the mountain.
