Established in 1879, Royal National Park is the world's second oldest national park (the first is Yellowstone). At only 15,080 hectares, the Royal offers a surprising amount of vast eco-diversity for its occupation of a relatively small area. Offering riverside picnics, surf beaches (Wattamolla, Garie and Burning Palms are lauded as the most beautiful beaches in the country), clifftop heathland walks, rainforest bike paths and a variety of habitats– including open woodlands and estuarine systems—the Royal showcases some of the region's most spectacular natural environments. Camp, swim, surf, canoe, beach fish, bushwalk or simply take in the natural heritage and beauty of the park's scenic views.
