If there is an opposite of shopping online, it has to be the Old Jaffa flea market. It is, in a word, phenomenal, and an essential stop on any tour of Tel Aviv. Even if you’re not out to buy anything, browsing the endless array of Levantine knickknacks, old maps and books, and vintage everything is a joyful exercise in urban anthropology. The sprawling marketplace begins just after Jaffa’s iconic Clock Tower. It’s honeycombed with restaurants and cafés, too, so you can take a break from the cacophony of the market and fuel up before bargaining for that fusty treasure you won’t find anywhere else.
