From Venice Marco Polo Airport, you can take a bus to the Piazzale Roma, but it’s more fun to take the Alilaguna Airport Boat. Venice is famously car-free, so either you get around by foot—every mini-island is linked by footbridges to every other—or by boat. Gondolas are touristy and pricey, with the exception of the traghetti which traverse the width of the Grand Canal at seven points between the church of Santa Maria della Salute and the Santa Lucia train station. Vaporettos, or motorized water shuttles, are an inexpensive and efficient way of getting around. Line One makes 13 stops along the length of the Grand Canal between Santa Lucia and Piazza San Marco.

Delta Sky Picks

"I will never forget experiencing Venice for the first time. It feels like you are transported to another time—the art, music, food and pure romance in the air is like no other place." —Elizabeth Berkley
