Bonjour, fellow bon vivants! Today was definitely one of those red-letter days when the stars were aligned and everything sort of went my way. The day started off with Lady Gaga belting out “Poker Face” on my alarm clock, and from there it was all go-go-go glamour!
But first, a little background: The Sky team is in the midst of producing our June issue, which is dedicated to all things New York City, and, although I am perhaps a tad biased, I have to say that the pages are going to r-o-c-k. Truly. We have Donna Karan, Isaac Mizrahi, Edie Falco, Donald Trump, Bette Midler and a slew of other notables gracing the issue, and that’s only scratching the surface. Think sizzle, soup to nuts.
I zipped into Manhattan to help superstar chef and TV personality Andrew Zimmern produce a chef’s round table at the fabled James Beard House in the heart of the West Village. We hosted some of NYC’s best and brightest chefs—including Ed Brown of Eighty One; Gabrielle Hamilton, the chef/owner of Prune; Michael White of Alto; and Gavin Kaysen, the executive chef at Café Boulud, among others—for an hour-long conversation that touched on everything doing on the NYC food scene. This fun and frisky crew talked about what’s hot, what’s not, the state of the economy, mentors and meanies and so much more (including plenty of dish and dirt). For more on this lively afternoon, sit tight for the June issue!
P.S. Roxanne Lowit, the photographer who captured the afternoon’s foodie-fabulous antics, is something of a legend in the industry. She just photographed the cover of Vogue España, and that’s no joke. See you next week when we head for the sexiest new restaurant in Manhattan (complete with tents and a belly dancer!).
