| The Hotel Lincoln’s moody-chic lobby with its dramatic wall of “bad art.” |
If you read my blog religiously, you know that I am simply crazy for Chicago. Chicago is everything that I want a city to be: The architecture is stunning; the inhabitants are friendly; the salespeople are actually helpful at Barneys; there are fantastic restaurants and museums; and it’s an easy city to navigate without drama.
Plus, Chi-town boasts wonderful hotels, including the spot-on Peninsula, the stylish Palomar and the cool-cat Public.
On a recent visit to Chicago, my partner, John, and I discovered a new gem, a cheap-and-chic property called the Hotel Lincoln, and we were simply smitten with the hostelry.
The latest from the uber-cool Joie de Vivre group, the Hotel Lincoln is perfectly situated across the city’s Lincoln Park Zoo and the 1,200-acre Lincoln Park (not to mention sprawling Lake Michigan) and sits but minutes from the glittering Gold Coast via cab or bus.
The hotel’s public spaces are cheeky and fun. I am simply crazy for the ground-floor coffee shop and the scarlet-hued wall of “bad art” that leads from the lobby up to the second floor. Plus, there’s a terrific eatery in the form of Perennial Virant and a divine rooftop bar, J. Parker, the perfect perch for swilling throwback cocktails such as a Cognac Sazerac.

The guest rooms are beautifully designed and comfortable with just the right amount of personal touches, as well as killer views of Lake Michigan. Pair all of this with an engaged, helpful staff, and you have a hotel with lots of legs.
I am impressed. Check it out.
