Middle East Musings

My foray into an entirely new world (at least for me) is just around the corner: I will hopscotch from Egypt to Dubai then jump to Oman and Jordan before returning to Egypt and winding down in Athens. Talk about a grand tour, huh?

Get ready for some far-flung installments as I debate the merits of Dubai and savor the spice of the Suez . . . .

I am a firm believer in developing a packing list before a trip to make sure that I don’t forget my chargers, the toothbrush, passport, and underwear. And what about mouthwash and plenty of floss? I have no interest in poking about some souk for floss, and neither should you.

A few packing suggestions:

A tip-top tote bag is a must: Fold it up in your suitcase, and bust it out for a trip to the beach or for stocking up at the green market. You will see me jaunting about Jordan with my L.L. Bean Patchwork Madras Boat and Tote bag. Can we say, High Wasp Hooray? It is a steal at $19, and I am sure that no one else in Aqaba will be toting such a fetching accessory.

L.L. Bean’s Patchwork Madras Boat and Tote bag would look so chic whilst haggling with a Bedouin, n’est-ce pas?

My favorite travel accessory, though, is the Travel Cord Organizer & Charging Case from those clever folks at Kangaroom Storage that stores all of my various chargers and iPod accessories (it holds up to seven electronic devices). Plug the power cord into the wall, hang the kit from a hanger, and charge those gadgets without strewing them all around your room. Brilliant, and a bargain at $35.

I can’t live without a few Lily Allen songs on my iPod, and Kangaroom’s gadget organizer will keep Miss Lily fully charged and ready to chortle.

Enjoy the weekend. I will be checking off my list.
