This week I hopped from New York to Minneapolis and back (you know me, never one to rest on my laurels—nor in any one place for too long) and sipped cocktails from the heartland to Midtown.
A few highlights:
J’adore visiting the Four Seasons Hotel New York for Sunday night cocktails and snacks: The hotel is sleepy at the end of the weekend, so you can really spread out and have a good conversation and catch up. Plus, sitting within the monumental I.M. Pei-designed space with a kicky martini in hand is an always-delicious experience. Split a hamburger (pricey, but if you share then you can somewhat amortize the cost), and catch your breath before the week gets going.
The prices at the Four Seasons’s chic bar are a bit steep,
but you only
live once, agreed? Just look at this glorious
blueberry lavender mojito. Yum!
For a more revved-up evening, I zipped over to Vue restaurant high atop the Hotel Le Bleu on the edge of Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood. Hotel Le Bleu is somewhat curiously situated in a commercial strip sandwiched between a FedEx parking lot and a Pep Boys outlet, but it’s also only steps from the Slope’s leafy residential streets (that’s Brooklyn, commercial to residential in less than a block). Take the elevator to the top of the hotel, and sit outdoors on the terrace for cocktails and nibbles with one of the best views in all of New York City. The entire metropolis is spread out in front of you, from the Statue of Liberty to Lower Manhattan and the twinkling lights of downtown Brooklyn (as well as views of the F train zipping above ground like a slithering diamond necklace). The terrace is truly worth a visit, especially with out-of-towners. And the drinks are potent, too!
Take in the stunning vistas from Vue, a newcomer in Brooklyn’s hopping

Later in the week, I flew out to Minneapolis to meet with the terrific team at Delta Sky magazine. My great pal and fellow magazine editor Liz Doyle and I scampered off to the W Minneapolis The Foshay for drinks on high at the hotel’s clubby Prohibition lounge. Situated in the former office of the building’s original owner Wilbur Foshay on the 27th floor, Prohibition offers comfortable sofas and stunning views paired with luxe potables (I adore their tequila rickey—Patron Reposado with fresh lime juice and agave nectar) and nifty eats. I love nothing more than work meetings paired with a stiff drinks—so Mad Men, n’est-ce pas?

Bottoms up!
