I was feeling a bit downtrodden, a tad maudlin and trampled, so I
zipped down to South Florida for a night of R and R by the shore. My
destination was the fabled Boca Raton Resort & Club, the pink
palace crafted by architect Addison Mizner back in the 1920s—all
crenellated gables and sandcastle-like turrets overlooking the
Intracoastal Waterway.
Now, I simply adore the main resort, but since I needed some time by the sea, I booked a room at the resort’s just-revamped Boca Beach Club,
which is hunkered down nearby along the Atlantic Ocean. The Club is
bliss, bliss, bliss—all contemporary lines, comfortable and soothing
color palettes and gobs of windows.
Here’s architect Addison Mizner’s original building in all its pink-painted glory. J’adore!
The Beach Club is also perfect for the children among
you, but I was able to distance myself from the tykes and turn off with
a cool cocktail in hand.
Here’s the dramatic pool at the Boca Beach Club, a luxe retreat just beside the sea.
I
lunched at the very chic Seagrille, gazed at the sea for a few hours
longer and then shuttled over to Mizner’s Cloister building to whoop it
up. And, oh my, did I enjoy my Morimotini at Morimoto sushi bar and my
glamorous dinner at Cielo by Angela Hartnett on the 27th floor of the
resort’s '60s-era tower. Pure romance with sparkling lights all aglow
up and down the coast.
Head for the Boca Beach Club’s lobby for a sublime cocktail in a colorful setting, revved-up with some thumping music.
And let me tell you: The resort’s spa is simply spectacular!
