Highbrow Hijinks

Yesterday I had a quintessential New York afternoon. It was one of those glorious Gotham days when the weather was idyllic (we have had endless rain so far this summer, so this brief respite of soleil was much needed), and everyone was out and about to enjoy the blue sky and throw on some of-the-moment, open-toe shoes. I found myself in the Meatpacking District downtown sitting atop the just-opened High Line, the fabulous elevated park that extends north from the MPD and that once carried freight trains.

The park is amazing—overflowing with wildflowers, works of art, and gobs of seating—and offers splendid views of the various neighborhoods through which it passes (from the Meatpacking District through West Chelsea and up to—eventually—34th Street): The park has even the most jaded New Yorkers absolutely beaming and buzzing.

From there it was on to cocktails at The John Dory, the groovy fish shack that sits just across the street from the High Line and that serves up gorgeous oysters on the half shell washed down with potent potables. Then I popped into Trina Turk for a new sport coat in day-glo colors (think Wham! meets Stephen Sprouse) before settling in for splendid pan-Asian cooking at the eye-popping Buddha Bar: Apparently the owners spent $10 million on the design of the restaurant, and, indeed, the place looks like a million—er, ten million, ahem—bucks. Fabulous sushi, divine fish, and a wacky Euro-centric crowd with model-icious dates. Fabulous, fun, and frisky. Perfection, New York City-style.

Over and out.
