Palm Springs Pilgrimage!

The stunning windmill farms and scenery en route from L.A. to PS.

After a few days in LA, it was time to hightail it out of town for some R&R. And since I have never been to Palm Springs, we decided to visit this fabled oasis in the desert. My esteemed associate Deborah Caulfield Rybak wrote about her PS adventures a few months back, and here are mine …

I love nothing more than a good road trip—especially something plucked straight from my most favorite movie, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion—so John and I checked out a super-styling car (the BMW 335i Coupe in a smoking, notice-me Montego Blue Metallic shade), loaded up the iPod with plenty of 80s-era tunes (from General Public to The Go-Gos and Public Image Limited) and zipped off to sandier, even hotter climes.

Here I am with the fabulous BMW 335i Coupe!

And, wow! How we loved the BMW! Maybe I just crawled out from under a rock, but I have never in my life driven a Beemer, and I simply fell in love with the 335i Coupe as we sailed down I-10 East. Let’s see: Amazing pick-up thanks to a 6-cylinder engine! A fantastic sound system. Incredible brakes—as we discovered when a gas-hogging Hummer cut in front of us en route to the towering Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. Even more importantly: We just looked so good in our little deuce coupe as we zoomed through the seemingly endless fields of wind turbines that line the desert around Palm Springs.

As we pulled into town, our first stop was the boutique of the lovely Trina Turk, my style-setting pal and designer extraordinaire who owns a fabulous home called the Ship of the Desert in PS. “Hello, hello!” we chortled to the sales gals as we bopped about selecting rainbow-hued Sundek swimsuits. Sundeks in hand, we jumped back into our white-hot BMW en route to the Ace Hotel & Swim Club and ready for adventure.

Hello, Palm Springs, here we come!
