Second City Sublime!

Whew, it has been a busy few weeks as the Delta Sky team has been in top-secret meetings to develop new content that will be a boon to our peripatetic fliers. It’s been go, go, go, and we are all really proud of the results.

But now that the project is winding up, it’s time for me to return to scheduled blogging. Frankly, I have missed the dialogue with my devoted blogeratti followers, so thank you for bearing with me and not giving up on this Jet Set gadabout.

Onwards and upwards …

Let’s turn to reader e-mails and see what you all are thinking about this week.

Ah, this is a good one!

Dear Jet Set: I am heading to Chicago for business and am looking for something central that’s perhaps a new addition to the hotel scene and that also marries some glamour with terrific dining and comfortable digs. Any suggestions?

Sincerely.
Patti in Duluth

Dear Ms. Duluth:

That’s an easy one! My most favorite new hostelry in Chicago is hands-down the Hotel Palomar (pictured left), the latest from those talented folks at Kimpton Hotels. The location is perfection, smack in the center of the happening River North neighborhood and only minutes from Michigan Avenue and the Loop. I love the soothing, atmospheric guest rooms with their nods to the 1893 Columbian Exposition thanks to wonderful period photographs and amenities (like mini-bars stocked with Juicy Fruit gum and Cracker Jacks, both of which debuted at the fair). There’s a gorgeous lobby done up by designer Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, a daily wine hour 5-6pm (great for getting to know fellow guests), a green roof, an indoor pool and a fabulous restaurant in the form of Sable Kitchen & Bar (chef Heather Terhune is definitely one to watch!). Be sure to try the corn-scallion hushpuppies and the spicy buttermilk fried quail with a tangy blue cheese slaw.

Are you sold on the Palomar yet? It’s a winner!

I love this place in Chicago! I want an amazing suggestion for my trip too. I am searching for a great place, a short flight from nyc, to take my partner over Valentine's Day. I need a warm weather location and a fabulous hotel close to fabulous activities and food - all without breaking the bank. Any fabulous ideas from all your amazing travels? Does such a place even exist?!
