Next week I am off to two very different locales: Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Bologna, Italy. But would you expect any less from me, dear blogophiles? So Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will see me clomping about Yellowstone National Park in hiking boots (Australian and quite on-trend, natch, with bespoke Patagonia duds) and sleeping in a tent (yes, there will be an accompanying visual as this just might be a once-in-a-lifetime activity), and Saturday I shall be ensconced at the Diana restaurant on Bologna’s Via Indipendenza lapping up the pasta in wrap-around Persol shades.
Of course, you will hear about every little detail, so get ready. And after my Bologna jaunt, I am off to Venice for three weeks to pen a feature on La Serenissima for the December issue of Delta Sky. And then it’s on to London for a week and then on to my home-away-from-home—Antigua, Guatemala—for Thanksgiving with the Nixon clan. Whew!
But even more exciting for me is my upcoming weekend when I shall be happily ensconced in my Catskills garden preparing the yard for the fall and winter seasons. Give me a bit of soil, and I am like a pig in mud. On the agenda: planting hundreds of bulbs including glorious tulips, hyacinths and allium; buying burlap to wrap my boxwood; aerating the soil with groovy spike soles I picked up from Sky Mall; and general puttering about.
Here’s my cutting garden at Monkey Cottage in the Catskills. My dahlias were the size of pom-poms this year—they were ginormous.
(Have you fallen asleep yet? I certainly hope not!)
