Nicknamed Old Ironsides, the USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world. It is still in operation and sails the water every year on July 4. The 44-gun USS Constitution, built in Boston, was launched on October 21, 1797. During the War of 1812, to the surprise of both the Americans and the British, she defeated four English warships.
