If you’re a photography buff, take your camera to the Recoleta Cemetery where the photo ops awaiting you are nearly infinite. Angels, cherubs, ornate crosses and architectonic moments abound—there’s literally a visually intriguing vignette around every corner. It’s easy to move around within the walled expanse, as the entire cemetery is laid out in sections like city blocks with wide tree-lined main walkways that branch off into sidewalks filled with mausoleums. There is room for 4,800 vaults within the property, all above ground, and some of the most important people in Argentina’s history are buried here, including many presidents and Eva, or Evita, Perón. The former first lady has one of the most popular crypts, which is littered with fading flowers and love notes. The architectural variety is a true reflection of the mix of heritages brought to this capital city.
