Located inside a Greek revival–style building, complete with 18 marble columns, this gallery’s collection of art rivals that of most big-city museums. Home to more than 5,000 works, the Albright-Knox specializes in 20th-century art from the likes of Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Warhol, Picasso and Clyfford Still, who are all represented in the permanent collection. Its reputation in the art world helps the gallery nab exhibits that don’t even make it to New York City. Make a point to see Picasso’s “La Toilette,” Miró’s “Carnival of Harlequin,” and de Kooning’s “Gotham News.” Once you’re done taking in the art, which may take several hours, sit down for a bite to eat at Muse, the gallery’s excellent cafe.
