Charlestonstylish in the south

Nowhere can visitors get a better feel for old Charleston than a walk along the Battery and White Point Gardens. Situated at the point where the Ashley and Cooper rivers meet the Atlantic Ocean, this must-see spot offers picturesque views of Charleston Harbor and Fort Sumter. Dotted with live oak trees and meandering walkways, it was first used as a public garden in 1837 and became a fortification for the city during the Civil War. Many of the historic cannons and war relics still remain. Head to the corner of Murray and East Bay to check out the Confederate monument of Stede Bonnet, a pirate hanged there and buried in a nearby marsh. After spending time along the water and in the park, make sure to peak at the homes of some of Charleston’s wealthiest, which are situated on pricey real estate facing the water.
