Carowinds amusement park calls itself “The Thrill Capital of the Southeast” with good reason. It contains 13 heart-pounding roller coasters, including several that are ranked as “Aggressive Thrill” rides: the stand-up Vortex, the Nighthawk flying coaster, the intimidating Intimidator, the spinning Carolina Cyclone, the forward and backward Carolina Cobra and the inverted steel Afterburn. There are even more scream-inducing rides like the Drop Tower and the Xtreme Skyflyer. The 105-acre park isn’t just for thrill seekers, however. There are numerous offerings for the faint of heart, such as live shows, shopping and Boomerang Bay, a water park. Carowinds also includes amusement park staples, like the Dodg’ems bumper cars, the Scrambler and the YoYo, plus a selection of children’s rides featuring Snoopy and the Peanuts gang.
