This inexpensive, no-frills barbecue joint smokes pork for 20 hours before basting it with a vinegary mop and piling it high on a buttered bun with homemade creamy slaw. But it’s not just the pork that makes Eli’s a pilgrimage-worthy spot. The all-beef hot dogs are smoked, deep-fried and griddled, before they're topped with pork “crispins”; the ribs often sell out before dinner; and the jalapeno grits would make any Southerner proud. Expect a friendly crowd with a turntable in the corner playing rock ‘n’ roll and local art on the walls.
