Since 1877, the National Museum has been collecting, preserving and displaying important pieces of Irish history. Today, it’s broken into four sites across Dublin and Castlebar. The National Museum of Archaeology displays artifacts from prehistoric modern times, including ancient Celtic gold and metalwork. The National Museum of Decorative Arts & History provides a look into the country’s arts, culture and heritage, as well as political, military and social history with examples of folk life and traditional dress, weapons and money. The National Museum of Country Life examines domestic life from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries. And The National Museum of Natural History focuses on zoology and geology. All sites contain educational exhibits that are good for visitors of all ages.
