The moving exhibits here present a comprehensive account not only of the Holocaust, but also of Nazi Germany’s rise to power—covering what life was like for European Jews before, during and after World War II. Two 30-minute films provide first-hand accounts of survivors, liberators and witnesses who moved to Houston after the war. Among the poignant artifacts are an actual World War II railcar—the same type used to transport millions of Jews to concentration camps—and a Danish fishing/rescue boat similar to what was used to ferry Jews to safety in Sweden. The museum chose to place the boat and railcar side by side to remind visitors of the continued responsibility to act when confronted with injustice.
