Johannesburg’s airport is about 12 miles east of the city center. Various shuttle bus services operate between the airport, the city center and the northern suburbs. Call Magic Bus (27-11-548 0822) or Airport Link (27-11-792-2017). Some hotels also offer their own shuttles while others will refer you to an airport-approved taxi service.
The best way to get around Johannesburg is by metered taxi - more expensive but safer than the shared minibus cabs. Always book by phone, and make sure to ask the amount when you book the cab. Corporate Cab company has taxis available 24-hours a day at 27-11-771-2200. There is a bus system in Johannesburg called Metrobus; most routes start and finish in Gandhi Square. The train system is not recommended for travelers.
