What to Pack

Remember that the South African seasons are opposite from our North American climes. Summer temperatures hover in the high 70s, cooling about 10 degrees at night. Expect winter temperatures in the low 60s during the day, but be prepared for a frost at night. Make sure to take a hat and sunscreen no matter the season because Johannesburg receives an average of 12 hours of sunlight per day. Spring and autumn are ideal times to visit as the weather is mild, kids are in school, and prices are lower. Most nightclubs have dress codes, so bring some spiffy duds.
