Maui is named after a demigod, who according to legend, pulled the Hawaiian islands from the sea and lassoed the sun on top of the Haleakala volcano peak. The island’s beauty is still legendary with 80 different beaches, 120 miles of coastline, the 9,740-foot Haleakala Crater and a lush rainforest interior. Plus during the winter months, the Auau channel off of Maui’s south and west coast is one of the best places in the world to see humpback whales during their annual migration.
