Designed by course architect Robin Nelson, the Dunes at Maui Lani is modeled after traditional Irish and Scottish links, yet inspired by the natural landscape of the tropical island. The greens follow the natural contour of the dunes, which were created when the island of Maui was formed, and the winds blowing off of the ocean add challenge to the 18-hole course. Plus, the course is quite affordable by Hawaiian standards—at $112 for the day including a golf cart—and offers discounted rate starting mid-day. Golf Digest named the Dunes at Maui Lani as one of America’s best-kept secrets, and Travel + Leisure calls the course “one of Hawaii’s golf jewels.” The Dunes Clubhouse has a well-stocked pro shop, men and women’s lockers and shower facilities, and the tasty Café O’Lei.
