What to Pack

In true Hawaiian fashion, Kahului has ideal tropical weather, with average high temperatures in the 80s and lows in the 60s all year around. The rainiest months are in the winter, November through March, but in the central region the rain is warm, and showers often only last for 15 minutes. Bring your best beach gear and swimsuit, and if your vacation will end up on the eastern portion of the island near Hana, bring an umbrella in case your sun tanning goes awry. Leave your suit and tie at home; even if you are on the island for business, casual attire is the norm. And if you plan to visit the interior of the island or hike in the Haleakala Crater, bring some layers and plan for cooler microclimates.

“I went to Maui to stay a week and remained five. I never spent so pleasant a month before, or bade any place goodbye so regretfully.” —Mark Twain
