Kauai Island

This combination adventure of kayaking and a short hike finds you paddling up a tranquil stretch of the Hulei’a River under looming volcanic cliffs and vine-draped jungle. Most of this trip takes place in the heart of a wildlife refuge filled with jumping fish and rare birds, where you’ll see the ancient Menehune fish pond and the rope swing Harrison Ford used as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. A short hike through the taro fields and overgrown orchards of Kipu Ranch takes you to the rock-lined pool where Johnny Depp and his fellow pirates cavorted with the mermaids in the most recent Pirates of the Carribbean epic. From there you hike up to the terraced volcanic pools of “Secret Falls,” before returning to float back down the river.
