One of Key West’s most famous residents was Ernest Hemingway. Many tales have been told about the famous author, and to separate fact from fiction, head to his former home on Whitehead Street in Key West. Hemingway spent many years here, writing books like To Have and Have Not, which is set in Key West, in his studio behind the main house. The main house is full of beautiful fixtures including a Venetian glass chandelier, which was purchased by Hemingway’s then-wife Pauline, a fashion journalist. Tour the house, studio and gardens, which are populated with the many descendants of Hemingway’s six-toed cat, all kept on property. The six-toed cats were considered lucky to have on board ships and a captain once gifted one to Hemingway.
