Cooking is probably the last thing on your mind when you’re planning a trip to Vegas, but don’t be shortsighted or you’ll miss out. There are two experiences that you might want to explore if you’re a foodie at heart. The Restaurant Guy Savoy Cooking Experience at Caesars Palace will give you hands-on cooking instruction at the AAA Five Diamond Restaurant Guy Savoy, the chef’s only outpost outside of France and the winner of the Wine Spectator Grand Award. The two-hour session covers preparation of a savory dish, such as vegetables cannons, a mélange of fresh and wild produce dressed with foie gras and black truffles; and a sweet dish, such as almond biscuits with milk chocolate truffles and raspberry marmalade. For $258 per person, you’ll carry both the experience and the recipes home with you.
If you worshiped the cook-top Julia Child sautéd on, learn the art of classic French cuisine at Mon Ami Gabi. You’ll start with a wine-tasting-cum-cocktail-party led by one of the restaurant’s engaging wine guides; then executive chefs will teach the art of cooking during a three-course French meal with recipes inspired by and featured in the blockbuster movie “Julie and Julia.” Dishes are rotated seasonally in order to utilize the freshest ingredients. Sample menus include jumbo lump crab cake with gribiche sauce; celery root remoulade roasted prime rib roast with root vegetable; and horseradish cream vanilla crème brulee. The experience runs $50 per person, plus tax and service, with a 10-person minimum. Bon appétit!
