Step back into Arkansas’ frontier history at this engaging living-history museum. The grounds contain six pre-Civil War historic homes, including the 1826 Hinderliter Grog Shop, now the oldest building in Little Rock, and the Woodruff Print Shop where the territory’s first newspaper, the Arkansas Gazette, was printed. Tours where you will interact with at least one living-history actor take about an hour and take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Inside the Museum Center, find displays of Arkansas-made art. Don’t miss the quilt exhibit, which has an impressive collection of quilts, including an 1861 “Secession Quilt” and an 1885 “Crazy Quilt” made from silk, corduroy, satin, fur and velvet. Shop for quilts and other contemporary crafts in the museum store.
