Here are some different methods of getting from the airport to your destination:

By train (light-rail): The LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority operates the Metro train service on several lines around Los Angeles. The nearest station to LAX airport is Aviation Station. A free shuttle bus from the lower level of all terminals serves the Aviation Station of the Metro Green Line. The Green Line runs west-east between Redondo Beach and Norwalk. Transfer at Harbor Freeway for the Silver Line to Union Station, or at Imperial/Wilmington Station for the Blue Line. Trains operate every 7-12 minutes from around 4:15 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. The Metro fare is $1.25 one way, and $2.50 round trip. The trip to Union station, including shuttle bus and transfers, can take well over an hour.

By bus: Several bus lines serve LAX, including the Metro city bus, Culver City Bus Lines, Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, Torrance Transit and the LAX FlyAway bus to downtown LA, Union Station. The FlyAway bus takes 25 to 50 minutes to go downtown and costs $7. FlyAway also serves Van Nuys ($7), Westwood ($5) and Irvine ($25). The information display near the baggage claim area gives information on bus routes.

By taxi: Taxis can be found curbside in front of each terminal under a yellow sign. Passengers are presented with a ticket stating typical fares to major destinations.

Perhaps the best way to get around Los Angeles is by car. At the airport, Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, Fox, Payless, National and Thrifty all have free shuttles outside of ground transportation to bring you to their lot.

There are also seven fast, easy-to-use and environmentally friendly color-coded subway, light-rail and rapid bus transit lines throughout LA that offer an affordable way of getting from one destination to the next. Visit www.metro.net for more information.

Taxis are also useful for dining out and hitting the bars. LA Yellow Cab is a trusted service. It has been serving the LA area since 1922 and rates are as follows: $2.85 Flag drop (first 1/9th mile)$ .30 Each additional 1/9th mile ($2.70 per mile) $ .30 Each 37 sec. waiting time and/or traffic delay ($29.19/hr. wait) $15.00 Minimum fare for all taxi trips originating at LAX plus $2.50 airport-mandated surcharge. $46.50 Flat rate per trip in either direction for trips between LAX and Downtown (Area bounded by Alameda St., Santa Monica Fwy., Harbor Fwy., and Ceasar Chavez Ave., Plus Union Station, and Chinatown). Call 877-733-3305 or visit www.layellowcab.com for more information.
