The best place in Madison to literally stop and smell the roses, Olbrich is home to 16 acres of stunning outdoor gardens. A high point is the gleaming, gold-leaf-decorated Thai Pavilion, the only one of its kind in the continental United States. Visitors can also stroll through gardens devoted to herbs, Hostas, perennials and wildflowers. Olbrich’s two-acre Rose Garden features a 30-foot Prairie-style stone tower with spectacular views. On a cold or rainy day, duck inside the Bolz Conservatory, a 50-foot-high glass pyramid stocked with birds, exotic plants, fish, flowers, orchids and a waterfall. Each year, from mid-July to mid-August, visitors enjoy Olbrich's Blooming Butterflies, with butterflies emerging daily from chrysalises and flying free around the conservatory.
