The Smithsonian Rock n Soul Museum is an important step if you’re looking to connect the dots of Memphis’ rich musical and cultural heritage. The history contained within the attraction dates back to the 1930s and touches on a remarkable variety of influences, including ones as sweeping as the Civil Rights Movement. Though no one needs to explain the significance of rock and soul music today, the exhibitions staged here serve as reminders as to how everything in daily life affected the writing of the songs and the singing of the tunes of some of music’s greatest heroes. There’s an audio guide filled with hundreds of songs, as well as also riveting videos, and legendary costumes and instruments. You’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back into a time when music was at its most evolutionary.
