Sitting grandly on top of Chapultepec Hill, this castle holds commanding views of the city. Built in 1725, the Castillo de Chapultepec has a rich and diverse history, formerly serving over the years as the home of Emperor Maximillian I, a military academy, an observatory and as a residence for several Mexican presidents. Now it functions as a historic site and houses the Museo Nacional de Historia, with exhibits and artwork depicting Mexico’s history, particularly from the time of the Spanish conquest to its revolution.
