There are lakes and then there are lakes superior, and those who’ve made the two-hour drive to the wondrous and magical lake of that name declare it soul-edifying. This northern-most body of water among the five Great Lakes is the third largest freshwater lake by volume and the largest freshwater lake by surface in the world. That’s ample sheen for reflecting dazzling sunrises and luscious sunsets. If you’re feeling really ambitious, take the Great Lakes Circle Tour, a designated scenic road system that connects all of the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. You can circumnavigate each lake individually at different times or all together. If you’re a history buff, read up on the Plano Indians, Lake Superior’s first known inhabitants before making the trek. For photography buffs, there will be plenty of photo ops, as the lake changes its mood with fast-paced regularity.
