Built in the 16th century, St. Michaelskirche is the largest Renaissance church north of the Alps. For a nominal fee, you may visit King Ludvig II—Bavaria’s beloved (and certainly most eccentric) king. The fairytale King’s remains are interred in the church crypt. Read up on him before you go. His bizarrely tragic story will make the experience all the more interesting.
