The airport lies 25 miles outside of the city, and a cab will usually set you back about $75. The easiest and least expensive option is the S-Bahn train. Simply purchase a one-way ticket from a kiosk or ticket counter (it’ll run you about $15). Trains head to the city center every 10 minutes from 4 a.m. until 1 a.m., with less frequent service during the middle of the night.

A rental car, while fairly inexpensive in Germany, can cause unnecessary headaches—finding parking in Munich is a bear. Once you’re within the city, public transportation is a great bet. The U-Bahn train offers 27 lines throughout the city, buses and trams are plentiful.
