Transportation 101

Look for United Cabs. Its drivers know the city best. Call 504-522-5771 and you'll get where you need to go. The charge for a ride from the airport for one or two passengers is $33. In town, walk or take a streetcar (there are three lines—St. Charles Avenue, Canal Street and Riverfront). If you go shopping on Magazine Street, take a cab to the 5500 block and walk the shops from there. Arrange for your cab to retrieve you at a specified time.

The airport is a half-hour drive from the French Quarter, without traffic. Rent a car if you must, but the parking situation in town is tough, and the roads in the French Quarter are narrow and one way. It’s hard to hail a cab, so keep the United Cabs number handy (504-522-5771) and call them whenever you need a ride.
