If you’re a history buff, the Oklahoma History Center is a must-see while in town. More than 2,000 artifacts and a series of collections focused on facets of the state’s past are brought to life through five state-of-the-art galleries and hands-on audio and video activities. For instance, the ONEOK Gallery Exhibit tells the stories of 39 Native American tribes through photos, music and artifacts. The Kerr-McGee Gallery showcases the historical impact and legacy of oil and gas exploration and the military in this region. Special in-house and traveling exhibits add another rich dimension to the experience. Head outside for a walking tour of the Red River Valley and the oilfield exhibit. The History Center is located in the Capitol Complex, near the State Capitol and Governor’s Mansion.
