Located in the College Hill neighborhood, Thayer Street hosts independent shops and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to walk around, window shop, and stop for a bite or a cup of coffee (try Blue State at 300 Thayer Street). Historically, Thayer Street was a counter-culture hangout, popular amongst hippies in the 1960s all the way to Grunge rockers in the 1990s. Since 2000, it’s become more mainstream with places such as Starbucks and Urban Outfitters. However, there are still bits of the street that hint at the history of the neighborhood such as the Avon Cinema, an independent movie theater that opened in February of 1938.
