The American River Parkway is Sacramento’s outdoor playground, offering respite from sticky summer days and car-filled streets. A paved trail runs along the American River for nearly 30 miles, from downtown Sacramento upriver to Folsom Lake. Rent a bike and go for a ride, or simply put on your walking shoes and stroll. If you’d rather go by sea instead of land, canoes and rafts are available for rent on the American River, or take a pontoon or ski boat ride down the Sacramento River.
