Established in the 1940s by British naturalist Charles H. Lankester, this once private garden is now open to the public and operated by the University of Costa Rica. Located 14 miles east of San José, the Lankester Botanical Garden hosts the rich flora and fauna of Costa Rica. Walk along one of the many trails and learn about the thousands of varieties of plants the gardens have. Maps and self-guided tours are available, or you can pay for a guided tour if you would like a more detailed overview of the species.
