Costa Rica means “rich coast” in Spanish and receives on average 100 inches of rain per year. Columbus discovered it in 1502 and gave the country its current name. Costa Rica is the oldest democracy in Central America and prides itself on being the “Land of Peace” because of more than 100 years of political stability.
