Singapore

For a tiny island nation, Singapore represents a rainbow of cultures. The predominant ethnicities include Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian, and there’s a strong ex-pat community as well. Reflecting its status as an international city, the official language is English, making Singapore a very tourist-friendly destination. There is, however, a kind of patois you’ll notice spoken amongst Singaporeans, which they affectionately call “Singlish.” It includes Malay, Chinese and Indian words, and sometimes variant pronunciations of common English words.
